Luis Suarez has played down talk of a summer move to German giants Bayern Munich, claiming he wants to be at Liverpool “for a very long time”.
Pep Guardiola would love to sign Suarez, one of the hottest strikers in Europe, when he takes over at Bayern at the end of the season.
The Uruguayan’s opener against Arsenal on Wednesday night took his tally for the campaign to 22, and he is second only to Robin van Persie in the race for the Premier League’s golden boot.
Suarez has just celebrated the second anniversary of his £22.8million move from Ajax and insists he is happy at the Anfield club.
He signed a new £120,000-per-week long-term deal in August and claims he intends to honour it.
“I hope to be here for a very long time, because it’s a massive club that kids dream about playing for,” explained the 26-year-old.
“I’ve been very proud to be at a club like Liverpool and to have made the decision to come here.
“I hope to be able to help out the team for as long as I possibly can while trying to do something to make the club and the fans very happy.”
Suarez appreciates the steadfast support he received from Kopites during the racism saga involving Manchester United’s Patrice Evra and his subsequent ban.
“In two years I’ve lived through some spectacular and very special moments that I will never, ever forget,” he said.
“There have been a few difficult times as well, but with the support of my family, the club and the fans, things have gone well for me.
“I do feel at home here. When I’m out and about, all I get is support and encouragement from the local people.
“That’s very important and when I come here to the club every day, I feel like people have known me all my life.”
* BRENDAN RODGERS has continued his clear-out at Liverpool by cancelling Doni’s contract and sending Dani Pacheco out on loan.
Brazilian keeper Doni, 33, made four appearances during 18 months with the Reds and has returned to his homeland to join Botafogo.
Pacheco, 22, has been limited to just three games under Rodgers and farmed out to Spanish side Huesca for the rest of the season.
Meanhile, Lazio’s French defender Modibo Diakite, linked with a January move to Liverpool, claims he fancies a move to the Reds in the summer.
